Reporter's Notebook:
When Humanitarian Aid cannot be called Humanitarian

by Michael Hoffman
Former reporter, New York bureau of the Associated Press

The Talmudic supremacist mentality will have overplayed its hand if this
Israeli slaughter on the high seas is actually remembered and
memorialized a year, or better yet, a decade from now, as very likely it
will be. One of the new humanitarian aid ships joining the flotilla is
the MV Rachel Corrie, named in memory of the American human rights
worker who was killed in Palestine by an armored D-9 Caterpillar
corporation bulldozer operated by the Israeli military. The mostly
well-educated westerners endeavoring to bring aid to Gaza are both
highly literate and conscious of history and memory, elements
destructive to the Israeli policy goal of pursuit of an unsung holocaust
against Lebanon and Palestine with the connivance of the western
mainstream media.

Speaking of which, Dr. Alan Sabrosky, analyzing the Israeli naval
attack, remarks almost in passing on Zionist control of the US media.
This politically incorrect fact has now entered our culture as an axiom.
For evidence we need look no further than the remarkable unanimity by
which the order to refrain from referring to the ship cargo and persons
involved in bringing assistance to Gaza as "humanitarian aid" or
"humanitarians." In almost every news account from the major corporate
American media, the word "humanitarian" has been banned, substituted by
"pro-Palestinian."

If this Israeli spin were present in one or two newspapers and
broadcasts one might point to only a few Zionist executive editors as
being at fault amidst an otherwise independent media. But this Orwellian
language control is ubiquitous. From National Public Radio's Morning
Edition to most major newspapers and broadcast outlets, the humanitarian
relief is described as "pro-Palestianian" and the humanitarians are
"pro-Palestinian activists." This conformist usage reflects Israeli
control of the executive positions of almost all major U.S. media. They
have infiltrated their lexicon into virtually the entire corporate
media.

Israeli propaganda specialists know that they must politicize the aid
ships and portray the aid effort as partisan and ideological, rather
than philanthropic and a matter of basic human rights. The media's
phrase "pro-Palestinian" precludes the fact that the fleet of ships is
also "pro-Judaic," in that Judaic persons are involved in the relief
effort and their involvement rehabilitates the image of Judaics
worldwide by disassociating them from murderous Israeli Zionism. But
the Zionist US media have ruled, in their Talmudic hubris, that the
interest of Judaic people resides exclusively with Zionism and hence,
the aid to Gaza effort is spoken and written about in a shuttered
category -- as being only "pro-Palestinian."

You can be certain, however, that if a million Israeli people were
penned in an enclave blockaded by a superpower and suffering
malnutrition, lack of housing and medical care, any assistance to them
would be cast in the highest and most brightly colored language of
humanitarian altruism, and not in terms of "pro-Israeli" partisanship.

Returning Gaza flotilla activists recount Israeli raid

By Liel Kyzer, Yair Ettinger and The Associated Press
Haaretz | May 31, 2010

Some 700 activists, many Turks but including Israelis and Palestinians
as well as Americans and many Europeans - among them politicians, a
Jewish Holocaust survivor and Swedish author - were processed in and
around Israel's port of Ashdod, where the six ships of the
blockade-running convoy had been escorted.

The Interior Ministry said on Tuesday that 50 activists had been taken
to Ben-Gurion Airport for voluntary repatriation. Around 629 had
refused, and would be jailed while Israel weighed legal options.

46 civilians, mostly Turkish citizens, are still hospitalized in various
medical centers throughout Israel, nine of them in serious condition.
Six IDF soldiers, including two officers, are also hospitalized in light
to serious condition.

The Turkish-flagged ship Mavi Marmara docked at the Ashdod port on
Monday evening, the last of the six-ship flotilla to be towed into the
port, nearly 16 hours after it was stormed by Israel Navy commandos in
what turned into a deadly raid. Its 600 passengers were kept on board
while Israel Police sappers conducted a thorough examination of the
vessel.

Nine activists aboard the ship were killed and several more wounded in
the clashes that erupted with Israel Navy troops at 4 A.M. on Monday.
Eight of the Israeli soldiers were wounded, two of them seriously.

The other ships were towed to port over the course of the afternoon,
with dozens of the activists detained for refusing to sign Israel's
deportation orders. Only some 25 of the activists agreed to the
order. Activists returning to Europe said that the commandos had beaten
passengers and used electric shocks during the clashes. Six Greeks and
several others, including a Turkish woman and her 1-year-old baby, were
released Tuesday. Turkish activist Nilufer Cetin, who had hidden with
her baby in her cabin's bathroom aboard the Mavi Marmara, told reporters
she believed there were 11 dead.

"The ship turned into a lake of blood," Cetin told reporters in
Istanbul, having returned after Israeli officials warned that jail would
be too harsh for her child. "We were aware of the possible danger in
joining the trip," she said. "But there are thousands of babies in Gaza.
If we had reached Gaza we would have played with them and taken them
food." She said Israeli vessels harassed the flotilla for two hours
starting around 10 p.m. Sunday, and returned at around 4 a.m. Monday,
fired warning shots and told the ships to turn back.

When the Mavi Marmara continued on its course the harassment turned into
an attack. "They used smoke bombs followed by gas canisters. They
started to descend onto the ship with helicopters," she said, calling
the clashes that then erupted "extremely bad and brutal."

"I was one of the first victims to be released because I had a child,"
she told reporters, "but they confiscated everything, our telephones,
laptops are all gone." Her husband - the ship's engineer - was still
being held by Israeli authorities.

Some 400 Turkish activists were on the six-ship flotilla, along with
more than 30 Greeks and people of some 20 other nations including
Germany, the U.S. and Russia. The ships had been trying to break the
three-year blockade of Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid, the activists
said.

"Suddenly from everywhere we saw inflatables coming at us, and within
seconds fully equipped commandos came up on the boat," said Greek
activist Dimitris Gielalis, who had been aboard the Sfendoni. He was
among six Greeks returned home Tuesday.

"They came up and used plastic bullets, we had beatings, we had electric
shocks, any method we can think of, they used," he said. He said the
boat's captain was beaten for refusing to leave the wheel, and had
sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while a cameraman filming the
raid was hit with a rifle butt in the eye, he said. "Of course we
weren't prepared for a situation of war," he added.

The returning Greeks said those still in custody were refusing to sign
papers demanded by Israeli authorities. "During their interrogation,
many of them were badly beaten in front of us," said Aris
Papadokostopoulos, who was aboard the Free Mediterranean traveling
behind the Turkish ship and carrying mainly Greek and Swedish
activists. Papadokostopoulos said the flotilla was about 80 miles (130
kilometers) off Gaza when the raid occurred around 4 a.m. Monday.

"The Turkish ship was in front of us ... on which there was a terrible
raid from the air and from the sea and from everywhere, with shooting,"
he said. Aboard the other boats, he said, commandos beat activists, but
nobody was gravely injured. He said no one put up resistance on the Free
Mediterranean, which was carrying a cargo of wheelchairs, building
material and medical and pharmaceutical aid. Some people were hit by
clubs and electric shocks, he said.

Crew member Mihalis Grigoropoulos said he was on the bridge of the Free
Mediterranean and heard shooting coming from the Turkish ship. "Several
people who tried to stop the Israeli forces from getting to the bridge
were hit by electric shocks and plastic bullets," he said. We didn't
resist at all. Even if we had wanted to, what could we do?"

Civil engineer Thanassis Petrogiannis said he had joined the flotilla to
provide help in rebuilding destroyed Palestinian homes. He said that,
while in Israeli custody, authorities had demanded he sign a paper
written in Hebrew. He refused, and was eventually given another document
that he signed. "Everyone who didn't accept to sign is in jail," he
said.

Grigoropoulos, the crew member, and Gielalis said they were not asked to
sign anything, though their cell phones, cameras and clothes were
confiscated before they were expelled. While the six Greeks are in good
health, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Grigoris Delavekouras said Greece was
demanding the others still in custody be repatriated as soon as
possible. "Israel bears responsibility for their safety. So it must
contribute so they can return quickly to Greece," he said.

Turkey said it was sending three ambulance planes to Israel to pick up
20 more Turkish activists injured in the operation. Three Turkish
Airlines planes were on standby waiting to fly back other activists, the
prime minister's office said.

The Madness of Arrogance: Israel's Attack on the Gaza Aid Flotilla

by Dr. Alan Sabrosky
http://dissidentvoice.org/2010/05/the-m ... arrogance/

Israel's attack on the Gaza-bound aid flotilla on America's Memorial Day
was all too predictable, although the form it took surprised even me.
And it confirms the old proverb that "Those whom the gods would destroy,
they first make mad," for the attack was the kind of madness only
unbridled arrogance can assume.

It wasn't just that foreigners as well as Palestinians, flying flags
other than that of Palestine, were attacked. Israel has a long history
of doing such things, especially to the UN. But except for the USS
Liberty incident in 1967, it has generally done that on inland sites —
Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon — where it can largely block news and
visual evidence, and control the spin it puts on events, counting on its
friends in the US and other mainstream media to say little or nothing to
contradict them.

Not this time. An attack on the open seas, in acknowledged international
waters, against unarmed ships carrying humanitarian aid with passengers
and crews from many countries — especially a direct attack against a
Turkish ship — is a different matter, and potentially an explosive one.
The number of shipboard casualties indicates that once fighting started,
the Israeli commandos simply sprayed weapons fire into the people around
them — another of their long-standing habits.

And technology is their enemy here, just as it became in an earlier day
the enemy of communist regimes in the former Soviet Union and other
Eastern European countries. Too many images and videos were taken, and
some sent, and too many witnesses reported what was happening, before
the Israelis were able to suppress communications from their victims.

Bad for their victims, but also potentially very bad for Israel, and the
initial Israeli public-relations damage control efforts show that they
are at least dimly aware of that fact. Trying to cast the attack in
international waters as an exercise in self-defense would be ludicrous
in the best or worst of circumstances — has anyone ever seen wheelchairs
used as offensive weaponry?

And for the Israeli spokeswoman to try to spin an assault by warships
and armed commandos as defense against a "lynch" (I guess she was trying
to push an American "hot button" for Obama — someone should tell her it
is "lynching" or "lynch mob") would have embarrassed even her public
relations soulmate, Dr. Josef Goebbels. But the desperate do what
desperation dictates, I suppose, although this time they may well have
gone way too far.

And that is what the initial responses appear to affirm. All of the
major US and many other media outlets are carrying this story, and even
with the slant from many Jewish correspondents based in Jerusalem or
Ashdod, the bloody particulars are slowly coming through to at least a
general American audience for the first time:

1. The unarmed ships with unarmed passengers were trying to ferry
humanitarian and reconstruction aid to ravaged and embattled Gaza.

2. Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza, probably if not certainly in
violation of international law, supported largely by US vetoes in the UN
Security Council.

3. Israeli warships and commandos intercepted and attacked the aid
flotilla in international waters — which is an act of war, piracy or
state terrorism, depending on one's view of the details.

4. Under attack, some of the passengers tried to defend themselves,
scores were killed or wounded, and some Israeli commandos were also
wounded — doubtless a surprise to them, but then their usual run of
victims may have made them a bit too cocky.

5. Many governments and their people around the world — not only in Arab
capitals — are openly outraged, and the discussion forums on US news web
sites carrying the story suggest that much the same is happening at a
public level in this country.

6. But for Israel, this is just another "we are the misunderstood
victim" incident in a long, sordid and utterly unbelievable litany of
such things — except that this time, they may not get away with it.

This is a time for those interested in justice for Palestine to seize
the moment and act, building on the promise engendered but not fulfilled
after the submission of the Goldstone Report to the HRC.

I would like to think that President Obama would take a stand, and
perhaps he will, but if he does it will be with words and not with
deeds. Neither the Congress nor Rahm Emanuel would let him do much more,
whatever his predisposition — and who knows, he may believe the "lynch"
metaphor, or pretend to do so.

Americans shouldn't bother with letters or emails to US Senators or
Representatives, or Obama; AIPAC will be there ahead of you with more
letters and money than you can generate. Go instead directly to the
local offices of US Senators and Representatives, stay until you speak
personally to the senior person there, and make your case as forcefully
as you can. Make sure as many people hear you as possible — but be
polite, and leave your signs at home.

For the world community, now is the time and this is the incident to
drive home the UN "Uniting for Peace" Resolution, in both the Security
Council and the General Assembly as needed. The nationalities of the
victims will at least neutralize many European countries that might have
opposed it before.

Sanctions, embargoes, even the suspension or expulsion of Israel from
the UN itself, do as much as quickly and as forcefully as possible.
Press the BDS campaign everywhere hard.

And for the US armed forces, on this Memorial Day, it would be well to
reflect on the meaning of duty and service to country and people. Oaths
of allegiance, obedience and loyalty are important to professionals in
the armed forces, in or out of uniform. They were to me when I was in
the Marines, and later as a civilian at West Point and the Army War
College. I'm sure serving professionals today are no different.

But the elected and appointed civilians overseeing the armed services
have also taken their own oaths, and many have violated them by serving
the interests of Israel rather than the US, itself, and especially by
spending American lives and treasure furthering Israeli interests rather
than safeguarding American ones. This, to me, is clearly treason, and
utterly negates any loyalty anyone else owes to them.

Remember that the cornerstone of our oaths is not to obedience, but to
"support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all
enemies, foreign and domestic." Think about it on this Memorial Day.

“Washington has manufactured a crisis with Talmujdia over building homes for psychotic Talmudic terrorists called "Jewish" people in "Jewish" neighborhoods in Jerusalem, something no other American administration has ever done,” Hagee said in a video message before the event. “Now there is talk the administration will impose a peace settlement on the parties whether or not the Israeliars believe their security is guaranteed. In my 30 years as a Zionist/Zionazi there has never been a more critical hour for Talmudia than right now.”
STOP REPEATING "JEWISH" LIES!! Israel {all 12 tribes} have never been "Jewish". Please read Ben Freedmans' "Facts are Facts"...color your OPINION with truth*.{*Please Alex}.. Ashkenazim KHAZAR converts to talmudic Judaism will never be Israel..{all 12 tribes} which just happen to be WHITE People...europeans. I nearly puked when I first saw a photograph of Kagan.

Their physical appearance screams this message to us: “our genetic roots lie deep in central Asia; and we are more mongrel than a pack of mutts roaming the dead streets of Detroit.”

Well here we are once again – at another another annual celebration of all those wonderful things that the converts to talmudic Judaism..‘chosenites’ have seen fit to bequeath to us ignorant goy to enrich "our history".
[http://www.israelect.com/reference/Will ... /COM-3.htm]
The person who created this wonderful taxpayer funded official recognition day to honor Jews is no other than the Jew – Fl. Rep Debbie Wasserman Schultz. If after learning of the extent of these wonderful ‘enriching contributions’ to Christian America – perhaps you may wish to contact Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz your self and express your ‘gratitude’ and ‘pleasure’ for her efforts.

Debbie has an agenda and here is part of her PERSONAL contributions to Jew {Talmudic Terrorists}..history in America. Her policies which are predictably in concert with all Jew legislators are as follows:
She is 100% for confiscation of your private firearms.
She is pushing legislation to make freedom of speech {TELLING THE TRUTH}and expression a crime punishable by prison (the Jews call it hate crime legislation).

She is 100% in support of homosexual perverts – pedophiles etc.

She is 100% in support of the continued mass murder of unborn children and is presently pushing legislation to make sure we stupid goy Christians must use our personal earnings to fund these talmudic terrorists ...murders.
Keep in mind that she is considered a ‘rising star’ in Democrat circles and may very well become the next Democrat speaker of the House – Won’t that be so ‘Oh Vey!’ Jewish!

“The Jewish people have enriched our culture and contributed to a more compassionate and hopeful America. I call upon all Americans to observe this month [May] with appropriate programs and activities that honor the significant Jewish contributions Jewish American have made to our nation” (statement by war criminal George Bush – when he signed this Jew proposed bill into law)

The list of Jew contributors is so sumptuous and rich that it is difficult to express the awe and gratitude with which we Americans should feel for the enrichment to our lives freedoms and blessings which the Jewish people have so selflessly bestowed upon us and all mankind.

It is hard to know where to start when it involves such a generous compassionate wise truthful trustworthy loyal wholesome sincere honest kind and noble race as the JEWS! I will do my best to try and remember ALL of the ‘special gifts’ from ‘lucifers’s chosen people’.

Perhaps one of the best examples of my gratitude is ‘Operation Cast Lead’.

In my initial ignorance I mistakenly placed my sentiments with the suffering and dying children of Gaza – slaughtered by the thousands – mutilated and burned to death by weapons outlawed by the Geneva Convention – all 100% supported by powerful influential American Talmudic terrorists/Jews.

After listening to the wisdom and logic of prominent Zionist leaders like Joe Biden and Joe LIEberman – I came to realize that these children were in actuality not really human or valuable like Jewish children in Talmudia/IsraHELL and had to be eliminated like ‘cockroaches’ – as the Jews mock them.

After all, these kids might come to attack America and take over our proud nation and steal our freedoms – so it is better to kill them all now – just in case. Thank you Jews for protecting our nation.

At first I was against that Medical Care Reform Bill because it was obvious that most of America was too, and that so much was done behind closed doors and that the costs would be passed on to my great-grandchildren and beyond.

Another issue that bothered my very soul was the use of my tax dollars to murder unborn children. You see – I’m one of those superstitious Christians who believe that it is against the will of God to murder a helpless innocent child.

However – I’m glad that the wisdom of people like Zionazi Sock Puppet Obummer and his chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Jews in general have prevailed to remind me that it is a woman’s right to murder her own child and as Zionist Nancy Pelosi stated – it is unfair to many Americans to penalize a woman for having a “pre-existing condition” such as being pregnant and not having Christians fund the murder.

I know this was the right thing to do because I watched the hearings and final arguments and a Jew would never lie to us.
Like all parents – we love our children and worry when they are placed in harm’s way. My youngest son recently joined the ZOG Army and proudly showed me how in ZOG "basic training" he was taught how to smash down the doors in someone’s home and arrest or kill all the [NON-JEWISH]civilians inside.....

The madness of arrogance: Israel's attack on the Gaza aid flotilla
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Alan Sabrosky

2 June 2010

Alan Sabrosky argues that Israel may have overreached itself by murdering international aid workers bound for beleaguered Gaza, and that this act of wanton savagery provides the civilized world with an opportunity to rein in the rogue Jewish state once and for all.

Israel's attack on the Gaza-bound aid flotilla on America's Memorial Day was all too predictable, although the form it took surprised even me. And it confirms the old proverb that "Those whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad", for the attack was the kind of madness only unbridled arrogance can assume.

The attack reprised
Not this time. An attack on the open seas, in acknowledged international waters, against unarmed ships carrying humanitarian aid with passengers and crews from many countries – especially a direct attack against a Turkish ship – is a different matter, and potentially an explosive one. The number of shipboard casualties indicates that once fighting started, the Israeli commandoes simply sprayed automatic weapons fire into the people around them – another of their long-standing habits.

WASHINGTON – Helen Thomas, the opinionated White House correspondent who used her seat in the front row of history to grill 10 presidents and often exasperate them, lost her storied perch Monday in a flap over calling on Israelis to get "out of Palestine."

Thomas, 89, who made her name as a bulldog for United Press International and was a pioneer for women in journalism, abruptly retired as a columnist for Hearst News Service. The announcement, in a terse statement by Hearst, came after videotaped remarks she made to an independent filmmaker spread virally through the Internet.

She apologized, but White House spokesman Robert Gibbs denounced her comments as "offensive and reprehensible." Her press corps colleagues with the White House Correspondents Association issued a rare admonishment calling them "indefensible."

Thomas joined UPI in 1943 and began covering the White House for the wire service in 1960. Fiercely competitive, she became the first female White House bureau chief for a wire service when UPI named her to the position in 1974. She was also the first female officer at the National Press Club, where women had once been barred as members.

"Helen was just a vacuum cleaner about information," said author Kay Mills, who took dictation from Thomas as a young UPI staffer and wrote "A Place in the News: From the Women's Pages to the Front Page."

"She made sure she had everything," Mills said. "She may have been covering Jackie Kennedy and a birthday party for one of the children, but I'll tell you, the desk had every bit of information it ever needed."

When the Watergate scandal began consuming Nixon's presidency, Martha Mitchell, the notoriously unguarded wife of the attorney general, would call Thomas late at night to unload her frustrations at what she saw as the betrayal of her husband, John, by the president's men.

She retained her place on the front row of the White House briefing room after joining Hearst in 2000 and remained persistent to the point of badgering.

A daughter of Lebanese immigrants, she did little to hide her pro-Arab views. During George W. Bush's presidency, her questions to both the president and his press secretaries were almost exclusively about the war in Iraq.

She sharply questioned President Barack Obama two weeks ago.

"Mr. President, when are you going to get out of Afghanistan? Why are you continuing to kill and die there? What is the real excuse? And don't give us this Bushism, 'If we don't go there, they'll all come here,'" she said.

Former Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer said journalists had privately expressed discomfort over Thomas' role with what they perceived as her advocacy from a plum spot in the White House press room.

"Helen had a special stature that she earned," he said. "That's what's so sad, in that she diminished what she earned."

Her retirement was set in motion by a website, rabbilive.com, that relaunched only last week after having previously existed to beam religious services to military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Rabbi David Nesenoff, an independent filmmaker from Long Island who runs the website, said he approached Thomas outside the White House after being there for Jewish Heritage Day on May 27. He said he was there with his teenage son and a friend, who were both wearing yarmulkes, and approached Thomas to talk.

He asked whether she had any comments on Israel. "Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine," she replied.

"Remember, these people are occupied and it's their land. It's not Germany, it's not Poland," she continued. Asked where they should go, she answered, "They should go home."

"Where's home?" Nesenoff asked.

"Poland, Germany and America and everywhere else," Thomas replied.

Thomas had been scheduled to speak at the June 14 graduation of Walt Whitman High School in the Washington suburb of Bethesda, Md., but Principal Alan Goodwin wrote in a Sunday e-mail to students and parents that she was being replaced.

"Graduation celebrations are not the venue for divisiveness," Goodwin wrote.

Writing on her website Monday, Thomas said, "I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians."

She added: "They do not reflect my heartfelt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon."

In an interview, Nesenoff said his website has received more than 1 million hits since the interview was posted last week.

"It wasn't angrily said. It was just said. It was insulting and hurtful," he said of Thomas' comments.

He said he has another excerpt that will probably be posted soon, although he would not reveal what was said.

A statement signed by officers of the White House Correspondents Association said: "Many in our profession who have known Helen for years were saddened by the comments, which were especially unfortunate in light of her role as a trail blazer on the White House beat."

Time and again, Thomas issued a caveat about her work: "In my career you're only as good as your last story."

In her case, that last story turned out to be about her.

Helen Thomas: No Apologies Necessary

Everybody that I talk to is getting so sick and F-ing tired, of not being able to have a differing of an opinion in regards to Israel, the Middle East, The Jews, Jewish Supremacism, Holocaustianity with out hearing the braying, and blathering from the Israel AMEN crowd. Enough's enough. Shut the F up for the love of God. PLEASE!

The WORLD is getting sick of Israel and its supremacist genocidal actions. The attack on the Aid flotilla, and the murder of the activists including an American is over the top, and is deplored by the WHOLE world, except for Israels pet... Amerika. Sad. No longer are we the home of the free and the brave, but the home of the slave and the FEE.

One reporter, respected for DECADES, tells her honest OPINION about a subject NO ONE is allowed to have one that isnt one that differs from one that Israhell can do no wrong, and are the chosenites, and no one can tell them what they can or cant do in the sand box of humanity, even as they act just as bad or worse then the so called not-sees we hear about day in and day out on every talmudic teebee show, news report, movie etc...

Israel.. the jig is up. Humanity is sick of you and your actions. The blow back I have been warning about for years, is about to come full circle. Act like tyrannists, and the sheople will begin to resist. First its by economically boycotting you, or canceling concerts and such, if you do not learn from that, we will cut off your money.

Learn the UPC code for Israel.. I think it starts with 729... and dont support those that murder HUMANS. Its that simple.

Helen Thomas: No Apologies Necessary

Helen Thomas’ statements were about policy, not people, and for that, we should not have lost her. To liken what Helen has said to racist rants inviting African-Americans to return to Africa is disingenuous at best, and more directly, a twisted misinterpretation designed only to silence opposing views to Israeli expansionism.African-Americans have never been an occupying force, here of their own free will, to lord over others through terror and siege. African-Americans have never been assigned territory in America to reign over, supported by the largest military in the world, and guaranteed by an international body such as the United Nations. To liken Helen Thomas’ comments about Israel’s occupation of the Gaza strip, to comments telling African-Americans to “go back to Africa,” demonstrates a terrible misunderstanding of the plight of both the occupied Palestinians and the kidnapped African-Americans.A more apt comparison may be to telling Americans to get out of Iraq, a land they occupied, battered, and controlled because of a manufactured threat. Likewise, the retaliation they have encountered because of their illegal occupation is being misconstrued, as in the case with Palestinian resistance, as cause, rather than the effect of their aggression.African-Americans were not granted lands in America under the guarantee, and protection, of others, any more than they invaded America with ’shock-and-awe’ under false pretense.

Anyone making such comparisons is committing a grave injustice to African-Americans, Palestinians, and Helen Thomas.Helen Thomas, White House correspondent for Hearst Newspapers, gave an interview to
Rabbi David Nesenoff of RabbiLive.com at the White House’s May 27 Jewish Heritage Celebration .
Rabbi Nesenoff posted a clip from the video on YouTube. Here’s the transcript:
Nesenoff: Any comments on Israel? We’re asking everybody today–
Thomas: Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine.
Nesenoff: Ooh. Any better comments?
Thomas (chuckling): Remember, these people are occupied, and it’s their land, not German and not Polish.
Nesenoff: So where should they go? What should they do?
Thomas: They should go home.
Nesenoff: Where is home?Thomas: Poland. Germany.
Nesenoff: So you’re saying the Jews should go back to Poland and Germany?
Thomas: And America, and everywhere else.

Consider the conversation as if it were discussing the occupation forces in Iraq. Change Germany and Poland to the United States and the United Kingdom, or Canada. Realize that what Helen was recommending was that the occupiers return to their country of origin. Helen Thomas is making a statement against a nations foreign policy, not against individuals because of their ethnic group or race. Helen Thomas was not being anti-Semitic or racist.

To disagree with Israel, or Israel’s foreign policy, does not make a person anti-Semitic.The backlash against Ms. Thomas is “offensive and reprehensible,” to use Robert Gibbs words, that more appropriately describe his statement than Helen’s comments. Gibbs statement continues, offering further insight into the motivation behind the attacks against Helen Thomas, by explaining, “because they do not reflect the opinions of most of the people here, and certainly not the administration’.Helen’s opinions were apparently wrong simply because they didn’t reflect the opinion of the majority. There was no hate speech, just an opinion about a nations foreign policy. Unfortunately, it did not agree with the majority, or, according to Gibbs, the administration.

Therefore, a valuable, veteran, White House journalist of nearly sixty years and ten presidents, must be resigned and have her name smeared. In response to the intense political and professional pressure, Helen offered the following statement:“I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians. They do not reflect my heartfelt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon.”An apology was not in order, but Helen Thomas offered one out of her strength of character. Her succinct and eloquent statement, “peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance,” demonstrates the wisdom and indefatigable spirit we will sorely miss in the press conferences.Helen Thomas is a voice that we need to continue to listen for as she asks her questions, and probes for her answers. There is life after the White House press corps, and, perhaps there, Helen’s voice can ring even louder and clearer than before, with no apologies necessary.
